Donald L. Sedall

June 4, 1930 ~ July 24, 2021 (age 91)



Donald L. Sedall, 91, passed away on July 24, 2021 at Edgewater Haven Nursing Home in Port Edwards, Wisconsin. 

Services for Donald will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, July 31, 2021, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nekoosa.  Rev. John Swing will officiate. Burial will follow at the Port Edwards Municipal Cemetery. Military honors will be rendered by American Legion Post 485. Visitation for family and friends will be from 9 A.M. until time of service on Saturday at the church. 

Donald was born on June 4, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois, to Edward and Francis (Czlapinski) Sedall.  He graduated from Wells High School in Chicago and received advanced education at DeVry University. 

He was married to Bette (Oleson) Sedall on August 8, 1951 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Sigel, Wisconsin.

For a short time, Don worked at Paperboard Products Company and also as a repair technician at Blenker’s TV and Appliance.  He began employment for the Wood County Sheriff’s Department in January of 1962 and retired as undersheriff in July of 1985.

Stationed in French Morocco, he served in the United States Air Force from September of 1950 until December 1953.  Don was grateful to be part of the Never Forgotten Honor Flight in 2017.

From 1949 to 1950, Don participated in Golden Gloves boxing and won the heavyweight title in 1950.

He was a long-time member of American Legion Post #485 in Rudolph and Elk’s Lodge #693 in Wisconsin Rapids.

His hobbies included fishing, hunting, golfing, bowling, playing pool and cards.  He also enjoyed attending the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters baseball games and cheering for the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers.  Don was a great cook and handyman who could fix anything.  He treasured spending time with his grandchildren and always took great interest in their sporting events.

Don and Bette enjoyed their 70 years together and 26 winters in Mesa, Arizona where they made life-long friends.

Don is survived by his wife Bette; daughter, Sally Zimmerman (fiance’ Jim Gardapee) of Plymouth, Wisconsin; sons: Richard (Rhonda) of Wisconsin Rapids, Bruce of Chalfont, Pennsylvania, and Brian of Wisconsin Rapids; grandchildren: Krist Zimmerman (Clare), Stacey Groll (Chris McDonell), Luke (Lindsey) Sedall, Katie (Joe) Seubert, Matthew Sedall, Andrew Sedall, Jenny (Travis) Primeau, and Tyler Sedall; great-grandchildren: Kayleigh Zimmerman, Callum Zimmerman, Bryanna Groll, Kenna Seubert, Jada Seubert, and Hunter Primeau.  He is further survived by brothers: James (Linda) Sedall, and Jerome (Linda) Sedall; sister, Jeanette Baltus; brothers-in-law: David Oleson and James (Barb) Brehm; and many nieces and nephews. 

Don was predeceased by his parents, stepfather, Duncan Rose; grandson, Erik Zimmerman; sister, Marie Brehm; brother, Ed (Mary) Sedall, and son in law Ron Zimmerman.

The family would like to thank Edgewater Haven Nursing Home, Veterans’ Administration Home-Based Primary Care and Aspirus Hospice Care for their kindness and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests consideration for memorials to the Never Forgotten Honor Flight or the Wisconsin Rapids Boxing Club.
