Franklin H. Jacoby ("Hunce"), age 99, of Wisconsin Rapids passed away Sunday, November 27, 2022 at Wisconsin Rapids Health Services.
"Hunce" was born April 30, 1923 in Wisconsin Rapids to Frank and Johanna (Bushmaker) Jacoby. He married Virginia R. Brown on June 12, 1945 in Wisconsin Rapids; she preceded him in death in 2009. Hunce served in the Army Air Corps during WWII and was stationed in Barre, Italy. Following the war, he was hired as a truck driver at Consolidated Papers Inc. and was very proud of his 42-year employment there. During their marriage, he and Virgie purchased and operated 'Hack's Liquor Store' and also owned 'The Spot Restaurant' in Wisconsin Rapids.
Hunting, fishing, cutting firewood and enjoying family camping were important past-times for him. From driving the Purple Puffer camper-bus to "Camp Samahuvi" near Eagle River, to being instrumental in beginning the Jacoby family-blended camping complex ("Camp Zip") near Hatfield, where many family memories continue to be made. In later years he began treating grandchildren to rides on his latest favorite transport – the golf cart…driving from site to site, campfire to campfire, always anxious for the 'news'. How Dad loved people – and "balderdash"! Always very generous…he became known at local charity events selling Mardi Gras-style beaded necklaces, helping to raise money for the cause and always impishly ready to entertain with a good story, a joke, or a song.
Franklin ("Hunce") is survived by seven children: Darlene (Allen) Ceshker of Slinger, WI; David (Peggy) Jacoby, Wisconsin Rapids, WI; Dennis (Becky) Jacoby of Nekoosa, WI; Dawn Hahn of Phillips, WI; Deanna (Joe) Fidler and Doris (Michael) Laskowski of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; and Daniel Jacoby of Hatfield, WI. He is further survived by 13 grandchildren: Jodi (Matt) Marvin of Iron Ridge, WI; Scott (Amy) Ceshker of Lake Geneva, WI; Brandon (Sharon) Jacoby of Nekoosa, WI; Brian Jacoby of Hatfield, WI; Jennifer (Tom) Shipley of Franklin, WI; Travis (Michelle) Hahn of Menomonie, WI; Christian (Vanessa) Hahn of Boulder Junction, WI; Amie (Rob) O’Connor of Port Edwards, WI; Bobbi Jo (Cody) Lundberg of Hudson, WI; Clinton (Ruby) Fidler of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; Eleasha (Matt) Dhein of Klamath Falls, OR; Katie (Jordan) O'Shasky of Rudolph, WI; and Jacob (Theresa) Laskowski of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; 28 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virginia; grandson, Shane Jacoby; granddaughter, Lacey Laskowski; twin baby Ceshker granddaughters; three brothers: Sylvester, Alvin, and Virgil Jacoby; and four sisters: Gertrude Cumberland, Mabel Westover, Kathryn Kiefer, and Margaret "Mugs" Novack.
