Born in Stevens Point, Wisconsin on July 21, 1937, to Arnold and Evelyn (Sossong) Higgins, Betty moved with her parents to Park Falls, WI when she was two years old. Ten years later, they moved to Wisconsin Rapids where she attended SS Peter & Paul Catholic School and later was very proud to be in the first graduating class of Assumption High School in 1955.
Following high school, Betty began working at CW Transport until 1988 when Gerber Co. closed the facility. She served as the supervisor of the filing department, worked as a rate clerk and spent many years in the Accounting Receivable Department. Following that closure, Betty worked as a People Greeter at the Wisconsin Rapids Wal-Mart until her retirement.
Betty moved to Weslaco, TX where she lived for 10 years and then returned home to Wisconsin Rapids where she sang in the Senior Sing-A-Long Choir. Music was a huge part of Betty’s life and her passion. She sang for many funerals and weddings over the years. Her amazing voice could always be heard at her home parish of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church where she also belonged to the Council of Catholic Women (CCW).
An avid fan of the Green Bay Packers, Betty rarely missed watching the game. Her hobby was to send out beautiful and funny greeting cards to friends and family for their birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions. She always decorated the cards with stickers and sent along inspirational notes inside.
In her younger years, she sang in the church choir, loved to go camping with her family, and ride her wave runner at full speed. When she purchased a boat, she enjoyed pulling her grandchildren behind on their inner tubes.
