Obituary

Carol M. O’Neill, age 85, of Wisconsin Rapids passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at Aspirus Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids.

The Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids.  Rev. Jerome Patric will officiate.  Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.  A time of visitation for relatives and friends will be from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the Mass on Tuesday at St. Vincent de Paul.

Carol was born August 13, 1935 in Wisconsin Rapids to Walter and Gertrude (Martin) Schoenick.  She attended a small one room school, Franklin School, and graduated from Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids in 1953.  After high school she worked as a shipping clerk at Nekoosa Edwards Paper Co. in the Port Edwards mill.  On April 28, 1962, Carol was united in marriage to Gerald O’Neill at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids.

Carol later attended Mid-State Technical College, earning a degree in early childhood, and returned to the workforce as a preschool teacher at Country Tots Daycare.  Carol loved working with children as a teacher and mentor.  She was known at the daycare for singing songs and the animated way in which she read the children stories, her favorite of which was Abiyoyo.  She truly treasured every minute of her 20 plus years working at the daycare.

Carol enjoyed skiing, square dancing and playing cards.  She had a way with words and was always the first to solve a crossword or guess the puzzle correctly when watching Wheel of Fortune.  She liked getting together with her card making group at St. Lukes Lutheran Church.  She loved her family dearly and looked forward to family get togethers and chili dumps.  She and Gerald enjoyed wintering in Texas for several years.  She especially treasured time with her grandchildren.

Carol is survived by her loving husband, Gerald; three children: Dawn O’Neill (James Utrie) of Wauwatosa, WI, Molly O’Neill (Richard Pavloski) of Appleton, WI, and Michael (Rose) O’Neill of Round Lake Beach, IL; six grandchildren: Vincent Udo, Genna (Wade) Caflisch, Amarion Utrie, Devan O’Neill (Renee Weinreich), Sean O’Neill, and Colleen (Kevin) O’Neill-Roos; six great-grandchildren: Audrey, Bennett, Claire, Blaize, Neila, and Broly; two brothers: Donald (Ardell) Schoenick of Wisconsin Rapids and Walter Jr. (Sandra) Schoenick of Wisconsin Rapids; sister-in-law, Helen Schoenick of Wisconsin Rapids; and many adored nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, William Schoenick; and sister, Marie Schoenick.
