Born on February 1, 1939, Darlene Parker-Larsen-Fogarty left this world to be with Jesus on December 30, 2021. Darlene was born in a house near Viola on a day of a severe snowstorm. Snow is heaven meeting earth; and on that day God’s child came to earth to be the strength and guardian of others.
Darlene is the youngest daughter of Mable and Earl Parker. Times were hard in the early 1940s. Indoor plumbing and a telephone were luxuries she didn’t have. Her doll was a peg doll she called “Wooden Head” until one Christmas Day when she got a baby doll. Darlene loved to be outdoors. She would be out sledding, skiing, snowshoeing, riding her bike, skating, and playing outdoors.
Darlene moved to Milwaukee in her youth. She and her friend Elaine lived on Milwaukee’s East Side where Darlene met Byron Larsen. They were married, and had two daughters, Denise and Marcia. Darlene worked both at home and outside of the home. She was a bookkeeper for many years in Milwaukee. Darlene made a home for and cared for her family. Darlene and her family attended church regularly. The family had a great life in Milwaukee. In the 1990’s they moved to Viroqua to be nearer to relatives. In 1999 Darlene lost her husband Byron to cancer. For several years, Darlene, daughter Marcia, and grandson Patrick shared a home. Darlene would fight lions and tigers and bears for her family. She is strong and brave. She’s the mom that ends every conversation with “I love you.” She’s the greatest. She is her grandson’s hero. She is everything.
In 2011 Darlene was with her friend Charlotte when she met Thomas Fogarty. They were married a year later. Darlene and Tom made a home in Wisconsin Rapids. Darlene continued to care for her family. Darlene and Tom had a great life in Wisconsin Rapids. Their years of marriage were the best of Tom’s life. Darlene is Tom’s everything.
Darlene’s focus was on helping others. She has protected and aided many. Friends call her an angel. She is her family’s heart. Thank you to all her family and friends who care for her. Darlene loves you all.
Darlene is survived by husband Thomas Fogarty, daughters Marcia Robbins of Viroqua, and Denise Pizzino of Utah, grandchildren Patrick Robbins, Kyrie Pizzino, and Lynda Pizzino and sister Edna Anderson. Darlene is preceded in death by husband Byron Larsen, and twin brothers Larry and Laverne.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 14, 2022 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m., until the time of services on Friday at the church.
