Elizabeth Johnson, known to family and friends as Betty, died Wednesday, February 17, 2021, at Aspirus Riverview Hospital, after suffering a massive stroke the week before.
Betty was born May 12, 1931, to Frank and Ingred Roach. She attended schools in Wisconsin Rapids, until the family moved to Milladore in 1948, and finished her final two years of high school at Auburndale High School. She married Hubert Johnson at the First Methodist Church in Junction City, WI on September 17, 1950.
Betty worked alongside her husband raising four children, helping with farm work, his excavation and pool installation business, and for a short time, having a sewing and crafts shop. In her later years, she was employed by Walmart. She was adept at sewing and needlework, always having something in her hands that she was working on. Her heart was always open to any of their nieces and nephews who needed help, or a place to live. They enjoyed traveling and had spent a few winters down in southern Texas. She was active in the United Methodist Church in Wisconsin Rapids, playing the organ for many years, and also was active in Rebekahs of the Oddfellows Lodge.
Betty is survived by her husband of 70 years, Hubert Johnson, Wisconsin Rapids; four children: Vicki Touchet, Lake Charles, Louisiana, Terry (Cathy) Johnson, Fuquay Varina, North Carolina, Mandel (Alycia) Johnson, Candler, North Carolina, and Laura (Glenn) Harding, Arlington, Texas; five grandchildren: David, Heather, Mylah, Lindsey, and Bradley; five great-grandchildren: Grace, Natalie, Austin, Beckett, and Landon; brother, Ted (Doris) Roach, Berryville, Virginia; sister, Jean Fennell, Wisconsin Rapids; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; brothers David and Paul Roach; sister, Lois Flick; and son-in-law, Ronald Touchet.
Betty’s family wishes to thank the nurses, doctors, and other hospital personnel for the excellent care she received while there.
