Obituary

Hazel I. Petersen, age 92, of Milladore, passed away Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Arborview Court in Wisconsin Rapids.

Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids.  Rev. Mark Lundgren will officiate.  Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.  Visitation for relatives and friends will be from 9:00 A.M. until the time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Hazel was born July 5, 1929 in Stevens Point to Walter and Aurelia (Dimka) Higgins.  She married Anthony Petersen on June 10, 1950 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Milladore.  They were blessed with 58 years of marriage and eight children.  Anthony passed away on September 19, 2008.

Hazel worked as a telephone operator in Junction City and also worked at Mancl’s IGA in Milladore. 

Family was the center of Hazel’s life.  She was a devoted homemaker and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She enjoyed reading, knitting and sewing.  She loved to camp. She was very supportive of her husband’s hunting endeavors and would prepare the game he harvested for family and friends to enjoy. 

Hazel is survived by seven children: Dale (Judy) Petersen of Hazelhurst, WI, Richard Petersen (significant other, Bev) of Stevens Point, Victoria (Kenneth) Meyer of Springstead, WI, Toni Marie (Dennis) Richardson of Junction City, Sandy (Butch) Hetze of Milladore, David (Lee) Petersen of Stevens Point, and Donald (Julie) Petersen of Milladore; son-in-law, Michael Tryba of Mosinee; 20 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Sandra Klimpke of Greeneville, WI.  She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Anthony; daughter Susan Tryba; brother Donald (Josephine) Higgins; and brother-in-law Ken Klimpke.

Hazel’s family would like to thank the staff at Arborview Court and St. Croix Hospice for the excellent care she received.
