Obituary

Larry O. Grosskreutz, age 83, of Babcock (Town of Remington) passed away at his residence with his family at his side on Friday, March 19, 2021.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Pittsville.  Father Nathan will officiate.  Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in the town of Sherry.  Visitation for relatives and friends will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 24 at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids and from 9:30 A.M. until the time of Mass on Thursday at St. Joachim’s in Pittsville.

Larry was born January 14, 1938 in the Town of Wein, Marathon County, WI to Fred and Alice (Hubert) Grosskreutz.  Larry attended various schools in the Northwoods.  He married Clare Stanke on June 22, 1957 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids.  They were blessed with 64 years of marriage and eight children.

Larry logged with his brothers in Wisconsin’s Northwoods, built homes, was a roofer for Central Home Improvements in Wisconsin Rapids, worked at Preway and paperboard, and retired from 3M Corporation in 1996.  After retirement, he worked for Ocean Spray.

Larry enjoyed deer hunting and fishing and was a member of the North Central Wisconsin Antique Steam and Gas Engine Club.  He liked to travel and went to Germany three times; once to visit his son in the Air Force and twice to visit a foreign exchange student and family.  He was very involved in the communities he lived in and the churches he attended.  He served as town supervisor and was on the volunteer fire department for the Town of Remington.  He served as janitor for St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Milladore, was active in St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids where he was on the building committee and was involved with All Saints Catholic Church in Babcock.  He was a member of St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Pittsville.  He loved his family and especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Larry is survived by his loving wife, Clare; seven children: Laurie (Ron) Heil of Wisconsin Rapids, Larry Grosskreutz of Milladore, Louisa Unruh of Rhinelander, Lyle (Karen) Grosskreutz of Rock, MI, Leo (Nancy) Grosskreutz of Milladore, Lonny (Geralyn Anderson) Grosskreutz of Rudolph, and Leanne (Dwayne) Mullins of Milladore; 21 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren (with one on the way); many step grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Lee (Diane) Grosskreutz of Marshfield; four sisters: Audrey Gasek of Medford, Marlene Gengler of Wisconsin Rapids, Veryl (Rich) Noftsinger of Ohio, and Lavon (Dan) Oleson of Wisconsin Rapids; and special friend Helen Ponczoch and her family.  He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Leon “George” Grosskreutz; four brothers: Delmer, Wayne, Ronnie, and Howard; sister, Arliss; and twin brothers at birth.

A memorial in Larry’s name will be established at a later date.

Herman-Taylor Funeral Home, Wisconsin Rapids, is honored to be assisting the family.
