Laurol G. Ratelle, age 82, passed away on Saturday May 13, 2023 at Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 9, 2023 at the Moravian Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. Beth Rohn-Habhegger will officiate. Burial will be held at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 8 at Herman Taylor Funeral Home and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at the church.
Laurol was born on June 9, 1940 to Donald and Marion (Turner) Ratelle in Wisconsin Rapids. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1959. Laurol was drafted into the United States Army in 1962. He continued his military service joining the Navy Reserves and retired after 20 plus years. He was united in marriage to Janice Lord on October 26, 1968. They were blessed with 41 years of marriage until her passing on November 11, 2009.
He worked for Consolidated Paper Incorporation for several years as a machine operator. Laurol was an avid Wisconsin sports fan and loved watching the Bucks, Badgers, Brewers and the Packers. He was known for his knack for ability to recall sports stats. He also enjoyed playing card games, dice and Trivia Pursuit with his friends and family. Laurol spent many days up north at their cabin on Solberg Lake in Phillips, WI.
Laurol is survived by his children: Chad (Meg) Ratelle and Chris (Shannon) Ratelle; grandchildren: Brennan, Aaron, Logan, McKenna, Reed and Finnigan; siblings Marilyn Hutter and Janet Hyams and many nieces and nephews and other family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Saleen and brother-in-law Ted Maier.
The family would like to thank the staff of Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital, Portage County Health Care Center and all other staff for their exceptional care that was given to him and his family during this difficult time.
