Obituary

Mary Ann Graf, age 81 of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at Arborview Court in Wisconsin Rapids.

Mary Ann was born March 9, 1939 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Joseph Zychowicz and Lorraine Simonis. She was raised in Milwaukee by her mother Lorraine and grandmother, Mary Runte Simonis. After high school she worked as a clerk at the Milwaukee courthouse until her marriage to Richard Graf. They were blessed with 5 children and she was a devoted home maker when the kids were young.  She raised her family in Menomonee Falls, and they opened various businesses including several candy stores in the Milwaukee/West Bend area named “The Candyman Shoppe”. In 1976 Mary Ann and her family moved to Adams County, where she built the house of her dreams. She re-entered the workforce first working at J.C. Penney’s. then her family opened “Grannies Goodies” candy store in Wautoma, WI. She was very active with the Chamber of Commerce. After her divorce, she went back to school for real estate and worked for Eagan Agency, Century 21, Adashun Jones & Coldwell Banker, then became a full time real-estate appraiser with Edinger Appraisals. Mary Ann worked hard and kept busy working several jobs at Pamida, Cap Services, as an apartment manager and furniture salesperson. In 2017, she moved to Wisconsin Rapids where she battled with dementia until her death.

Mary Ann was very eager to learn and enjoyed learning phrases in several languages. Her love of music included Elvis and Johnny Cash. She adored cats and enjoyed sitting in her rocker with a cat in her lap. She was an inspiration to people and looked on the positive side of things. Her favorite saying was “You never fail, until you stop trying”. She loved her kids and grandkids with a passion. She will be greatly missed.

Mary Ann is survived by her kids, Jim Graf, Hancock, WI – Bill Graf (Ranee), Wisconsin Rapids, WI – Joe Graf, Hancock, WI – Dan Graf, Appleton, WI; 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and brothers Tom Zychowicz and Ted Zychowicz.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Susan Graf, daughter in law, Kitt Graf and brothers; Bob Knapp, Tom Knapp, Anthony Zychowicz.

A celebration of life will be at Silvercryst Supper Club, Wautoma, WI on Saturday, November 14, 2020 from 1pm – 4pm.
