Merle Edwin Ross, age 100, passed away on January 22, 2023 at Our House in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin.
Funeral services for Merle will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 27, 2023 at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. Matthew Bergstresser will officiate. Visitation for family and friends will begin at 9:00 a.m. Friday until the time of services at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at Forest Hill Mausoleum.
Merle was born on September 9, 1922 to Fred and Teresa Ross in the Town of Kilbourn – Wisconsin Dells. After retirement, Merle worked over 10 years as grounds keeper at Bullseye Country Club.
Merle proudly served in the United States Army as a first-class machine gunner through World War II. He was honorably discharged on October 5, 1943. As a lifetime member of the American Legion, he served as Commander of Post 9 where he was involved with many military services. In 2022, he was honored to be included with other veterans on the Memorial Walkway in Neillsville, WI. He was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years (married on December 28, 1974), Margaret; sons: Erwin (Carol) Ross, Allen (Michelle) Ross, Duane (Laurie) Ross, William Rominsky, and Patrick Rominsky; daughters: Pat (Dennis) Ross, and Diane Ross; grandchildren: Shane (Shannon) Sikorski, Rico (Michelle) Ross, Dustin (Felicity) Ross, Sheena Williams, Elizabeth (Corey) Brock, Brad (George) Anderson, Jessica Rominsky, Jesse (Tammy) Fuller, and Krista Sederberg; and many nieces and nephews.
Merle was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Everette (Marion) Ross, Floyd (Ellen) Ross, Raymond Ross, and Harold Ross; sisters: Winifred (Francis) Brundidge, Marie (Arden) Hanson, Addie (Pete) Hendrickson, two infant sisters, and grandson Reed Ross.
