Norbert Dick “Maašjamani” (Walking Strong), age 71, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at Aspirus Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids.
Commitment services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at the Cex Haci Community Building in Nekoosa. Kelly LeMere will officiate. Burial will be at Dexterville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. on Friday at the Cex Haci Community Building. The family requests all in attendance to please wear facemasks and follow COVID-19 precautions.
Norbert was born September 7, 1949 in Wisconsin Rapids to Vanverd and Emaline (Grizzly Bear) Dick. Norbert proudly served in the United States Navy from April 14, 1969 until January 18, 1971. He married Alice Mae Hall on September 23, 1973. They were blessed with 48 years of marriage.
He worked as a police officer and game warden in Winnebago, Nebraska. After moving back to Wisconsin, he was employed as Director of Security at Ho-Chunk Gaming Wisconsin Dells until his retirement.
Norbert was a faithful member of the Native American Church and was active in attending the prayer meetings. He loved spending time with his family. He loved nature and enjoyed getting up before sunrise to begin the day. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a great storyteller and loved to tease his wife. He was always there to help anyone in time of need.
Norbert is survived by his loving wife, Alice; children: Natalie (Wayne) Mundell, Alona Jones, and Wallace (Heather) Dick; grandchildren: Ethan, Anisia, Tya, Ramona, Cameron, Anthony, and Lakota; brother, Vanverd (June) Dick; and many other relatives. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Nathan, Crandall, and Keith Dick; sisters: Lorna, Lenora, and Elaine; and nephews: Carlos, Terrance, Calvin, and Joseph.
