Raymond D. Wunrow of Port Edwards, Wisconsin, known affectionately as Ray, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2023, at the age of 92.
Ray was born in Marshfield, WI on December 22, 1930, to Theodore and Meta (Gergs) Wunrow. He served his country in the United States Navy from 1948 to 1952. He was honored to go on the Never Forgotten Honor Flight in May 2014.
Ray married Grace (Trybula) Griebel on February 19, 1955. She died on November 14, 2004. He then married Gloria (Mahnke) Lagrew on May 5, 2005.
Ray was a dedicated worker and spent his career at Consolidated Papers Inc in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, retiring in 1990 as a supervisor in the Paperboard Division after 37 years of service.
Ray was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and Buckley-Baldwin Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2534 in Wisconsin Rapids, where he served with distinction. Ray had a love for polka dancing and fishing, often spending cherished time at Six Lakes Resort in Chetek, WI. His love for life and joyful spirit will be remembered by all who knew him.
In his passing, he leaves behind his beloved wife, Gloria Wunrow; daughter, Shirley (Mike) Stensberg of Wisconsin Rapids; stepson, David Griebel of Marshfield; step-grandchildren: Melissa (fiancé Kyle Krause) Stensberg of Wisconsin Rapids, Chelsea (John) Brooks of Texas, Alex Stensberg of Wisconsin Rapids, and Vicky (Leroy Umbs) Griebel and Greg (Amy Reyes) Griebel of Marshfield; step-great-grandchildren: Kala and Austen Griebel, Lylah and Josh Krause, and Sari and Mya Brooks; and brother, Roman Wunrow of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Meta Wunrow; his first wife, Grace Wunrow; two brothers: Clifford and Reinhold Wunrow; and his beloved Shih Tzu, Benji.
Raymond's life was filled with love for his family, commitment to his community, and passion for his hobbies. His legacy will be kept alive by the memories shared by his family and friends.
Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, September 1, 2023 at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. Timothy Ritter will officiate. Entombment will be at Forest Hill Mausoleum with military honors rendered by VFW Post 2534. Visitation for relatives and friends will be from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home.
