Rodney A. “Spike” Dorski, age 86, passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2023. He was born on October 27, 1936, in Stanley, Wisconsin, the son of Donald and Leona Dorski.
Rod graduated from Tomahawk High School and UW-Stevens Point.
He served his country in the United States Navy from 1954 to 1957. He proudly served on the USS Bon Homme Richard (CVA-31). He was also a member of the Shipmates Association
Rod married Connie J. Van Ryen on June 28, 1958, in Tomahawk. He retired from General Distributing as a purchasing agent.
Rod was also proud to have served with the Grand Rapids Volunteer Fire Department for 38 years. He loved spending time with his family and friends, he had quite a sense of humor, he enjoyed telling jokes and playing sheep’s head. He also enjoyed helping Connie bake and also sharing the goods with local business and friends.
Rod is survived by his wife of 65 years, Connie. His children, Kurt (Mary Alft) Dorski and Kim (Jeff) Anderson; his grandchildren, Benjamin (Theresa Ritchie) Rusch, Matthew Rusch, Carrie Dorski and Melissa (Eric) Ecklund; great grandchildren, Ariana, Cameron, Makenna, Emmett, Lena, and Bailey. He is further survived by his sisters-in-law, Terry Dorski and Doris Rice and by several nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Dennis Dorski and Donald Dorski Jr.; sister, Karen Miller and by a nephew Todd Dorski.
Memorial Services will be held on Friday, September 8, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Herman-Taylor Funeral Home with the Reverend Timothy Ritter presiding. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be held at a later date at Forest Hill Cemetery.
