Ruth C. Rennhack

October 20, 1930 ~ May 18, 2022 (age 91)

Ruth Corrine Rennhack, age 91, Marshfield, passed peacefully to her eternal rest while in the comforting arms of her family on May 18, 2022.

Ruth was born Oct. 20, 1930, in Wisconsin Rapids to Edith (Howard) and Merritt Tubbs. The fifth of six children, she enjoyed the shenanigans of growing up on the family farm and delighted in sharing those stories with her own family. She graduated from Pittsville High School in 1948.

As a young woman, Ruth met Allen Rennhack at a community dance and a courtship ensued. Following his service in the Navy during WWII, they were married on June 24, 1950. They settled in Racine following their marriage, where their first child, David Allen, was born in 1951. Soon they moved closer to family, buying a hobby farm in Pittsville, and two daughters were added to their family, Judy Lynn in 1955 and Laurie Kaye in 1963. In 1973 they sold the farm and moved to Nekoosa, remaining there for 30 plus years, and then moved to Marshfield. Married for 60 years, Ruth and Allen built a life they loved.

In her early adult years, Ruth worked for a brief time as a secretary and later in a factory to earn money to purchase a sewing machine. She was active with her churches in Pittsville and Nekoosa, and she helped in various capacities with school activities while her children were in school. She cleaned houses for a time and was a caretaker for her mother. She could always be seen attending the sporting events and musical productions that her children and grandchildren participated in.

Ruth’s greatest joy and fulfillment came from being a wife, homemaker, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed having a big garden, growing plants and flowers, canning, cooking, baking, crocheting, knitting, sewing, working crossword puzzles, and playing Yahtzee with her family. One of her proudest achievements that gave her the most joy was crocheting a christening gown for her great-grandchildren. She had a big heart for others and enjoyed sending encouraging words to family and friends through phone calls, writing letters, and Facebook. Ruth also thoroughly enjoyed her years bowling with friends on a team at Bowl-Mor Lanes, and an especially memorable trip to Las Vegas with those friends. Her family enjoys those pictures to this day.

Ruth possessed a great combination of compassion, gentleness, kindness, patience, courage, and determination. Her wit, wisdom, and laughter were freely given and will echo in the hearts and minds of all who knew her for many years to come. Ruth’s parting words to her family and all she loved, “Do not be sad, be happy, live life.”

Ruth is survived by her two daughters: Judy (Bob) Johnston, Marshfield, and Laurie (Bob) Hoffman, Park Falls, and by her daughter-in-law, Sue Rennhack, Oregon. By 12 grandchildren: Ashley (Austin) Rennhack, Jessica (Rob) Garrels, Samantha (Kyle) Garrels, Ryan (Jen) Johnston, Alison (Bud) Mickelson, Seth (ReBecca) Carlson, Chelsea (Jeff) Wesley, Jed (Lauren) Carlson, Bo (Emily) Carlson, Andrea (Felipe) Hoffman, Victoria (Jake) Neuman, and Greg Hoffman. By 12 great-grandchildren: Natalie Weeks, Ethan and Leif Johnston, Stella Koch and Jack Carlson, George and Acy Mickelson, Henrik, Audra, and Anders Wesley, Elouise Carlson, and Brody Lakey. And by many nieces, nephews, and friends whom she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen, and her son, David; by her parents Edith and Merritt and her in-laws Alma and Harry; by her brothers- and sisters-in-law: Merle and Clara, Leroy and Betty, Glen and Jean, and Ronald and Marie; by her sister and brother-in-law, Ida and Harold Zimmerman; and by her brother- and sister-in-law Richard and Ramona Rennhack.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 26, at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home, Wisconsin Rapids, from 5-8 p.m., and at Christ Lutheran Church, Marshfield, from 10-11 a.m. on Friday, May 27.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, Marshfield, on Friday, May 27. Burial will take place at Port Edwards Cemetery.
