Walter “Wally, “Sosin Jr. passed away on August 8, 2023, at Arborview Court in WI Rapids.
Wally was born in Chicago, IL in May of 1944.
He is survived by his sons Walter “Rob” Sosin, III, (Tammy), Eric (Amy) and daughter Leita Sosin.
As well as grandchildren, Alexandra, Robert “Bobby”, Mason, Bryce and Maria. His sister Mary Von Qualen (Virden) and nephews and niece Kevin (Lindsay) Von Qualen, Lauren (Robb) Emmett, and Evan Sosin.
Very important loved ones in Wally’s life are the mother of his children and his friend of over 70 years, George Argast (of IL)
He is preceded in death by his father Walter R. Sosin Sr and mother Gertrude “Trudy” Sosin (nee Murdoch) of Mt. Prospect IL, and his brother William “Bill” of Chicago, IL.
Wally served in the US Army from 1965 to 1967 and was on a tour of duty with the 1st Cavalry Division in Vietnam. His father, uncle, grandfather, daughter and grandson have all served their country. Wally was active in the Hero’s Café and other veterans' organizations in Wisconsin Rapids. Wally and Leita received quilts of valor together for their service.
He was a dedicated family man, a very loyal and sentimental friend, and an avid Elvis Presley fan.
Wally gained a following for his radio show years ago called “Pigskin Wally”. As an avid Bears fan (having been born in Chicago) and always enjoying football, he took a lot of heat living in Green Bay Packer territory and had a fun and engaging radio show where he would predict the scores of upcoming games.
He always liked “wheels” and enjoyed riding and driving his bicycle, motorcycle and classic car.
He was also known for his flair in automobile sales, with former clients returning to him to update cars, or many years later coming up to him to stop and talk about the cars he had sold to them.
The Sosin family is so appreciative of the care and compassion Wally received from Arborwood, Arborview Court, Promedica Hospice and the Wisconsin Rapids CBOC.
